Notes:
Laurel High School wins its first state championship. Andy Tucker, heavyweight from Laurel, was disqualified for stalling in the final match. The result did not matter as Laurel still placed far ahead of second place Catonsville.

Laurel had three individual champions in Hirsch, Crescendo, and Meister.

The tournament also saw its first ever finals matchup of defending state champions as Tyrone Neal of Southern and Steve Wolfe of Parkdale battled for the 145lb title. Neal won.

Nine hundred screaming fans saw the tournament decided in the 187lb final. Top seed Frank Davis, also an all-metro football player defeated second seed Stewart Orange of Forest Park. At that point Gilman trailed Mervo by 2 points. Davis’s victory put Gilman ahead for good.
Bill Gamper of Gilman is named tournament Outstanding Wrestler.
