Most Maryland Schools do not attend due to snow and the rescheduling of the MSA tournament for the same weekend. Mount St. Joe, the winner of the 1978 tournament will win again in 1980.

Notes:
St. Paul’s Davey Patterson was voted the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler. Because of snow days the tournament was moved from the previous weekend. This caused a conflict with the National Prep tournament held the same time as the MSA tournament. First year coach Allen Smith of Mount St. Joe decided to forgo the National Prep Tournament in favor of the MSA tournament. Mount St. Joseph wins it’s fourth consecutive MSA tournament.
